Promoting Business

Promoting Business

As a small business owner, I understand the challenges faced by start-up businesses.  I also understand that small business is the engine of our economy and the backbone of our workforce.  When our small business community thrives, everyday Kentuckians stand to benefit.  The One Stop website was a significant step in the right direction for making access to all of the functions of Secretary of State easier and simpler to follow.  However, there is always room for improvement.  I would incorporate a plugin for instant messaging with someone in the office.  Further, I would seek feedback from small business owners across the state.  A survey or series of small business forums would give small business owners a seat at the table for deciding site changes.  Small business owners would know best what changes we could implement for better functionality of the site.  I would also advocate for a reduction in the yearly tax that the Secretary of State office assesses to small businesses, especially if that business doesn’t turn a profit.

As Secretary of State, I will collaborate with the Office of Tourism and the Kentucky Film Office to help create materials to promote business in our Commonwealth. These materials can be used at trade shows and conferences which promote business growth.  I will also work with SOAR,  EKCEP, and other community-based business development organizations to help attract out of state investors to bring new business to the Commonwealth.
