Moderinizing Our Voting System

Moderinizing Our Voting System

I have been advocating for Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) since Day 1 of my campaign.  AVR serves 3 different purposes.  First, AVR ensures that every eligible citizen is registered to vote when they start the process of getting their driver’s license or state ID.  Second, a citizen’s voter registration moves with them when they change the address on their driver’s license or state ID.  Each citizen will then be notified by mail of their new polling location.  Finally, AVR helps make the job of the County Clerk easier.  AVR acts as a way of automatically cleaning voter rolls when a citizen doesn’t renew his or her driver’s license or state ID.

Here in Kentucky, we have an outdated law that requires voters to register 30 days in advance of elections.  This law discourages voter turnout.  By implementing an Automatic Voter Registration system, we can clean up our voter rolls in a secure way, while promoting higher voter turnout.  I will fight to replace the current law with an AVR system that protects the rights of all eligible voters.
